I have hundreds of questions flying around in my head after reading this comic, and that’s a good thing. This wild place is unpredictable no matter how long you’ve been reading comics, and that is just plain fun for everyone. The board has, for the most part, been reset and new readers are experiencing a new world for the first time, same as long time Marvel readers. This is a wild world, and with each page flip I found myself more excited by what chaos Jonathan Hickman might unleash upon it.įor any readers worried about the continuity heaviness of issue #1, the back-matter-knowledge required to enjoy issue #2 is nothing to worry about. It doesn’t feel heavy handed at any point, which is an accomplishment considering how much information is delivered to readers. There isn’t a ton of exposition, but most of what is explained about Battleworld is done through some very well written dialogue. This world feels wild and ripe for exploration and I felt Hickman explores it through some very interesting eyes in this first issue. Hickman gives readers the grand tour of the new world in a very interesting way in this issue, also bringing information forward about the Thors and a little tease as to just what really went down when the universe collapsed at the end of issue #1. The Marvel Universe(s) as we know it are toast and what exists now is Battleworld, a world where it would appear there is one almighty God and a ton of territorial in-fighting. Jonathan Hickman really has blown everything to smithereens and what is left…is an exciting place. From the ashes of Secret Wars #1 rises Battleworld, a construct that Hickman gives life in this second issue, a masterfully created comic that gives this event a whole lotta life.
